Polycarbonates inherently contain the chemical BpA which is toxic to human beings. Acrylic was developed as a BpA free alternative to these plastics. However, generating new material also greatly impacts limited environment resources and thus a recycling approach is a key opportunity to create sustainably.
r38 is a recycled acrylic material suitable for the manufacturing of sustainable injection eyewear.
Composition & Production
This material comes from recycled material from milk bottles, writing utensils and water containers.
Benefits
Reduced BPA presence in material and environment
Heat Resistant
Works well for heat transfer designs
Suitable for pin hinge structure.
Great for matte and rubber touch finishes
Low product wastage throughout the process
Material durability means longer product life and less material ending up in landfill
To Note
Not yet suitable for paper wrapped water transfer printing.
Resin ID code 7 – some municipalities will recycle this material, other do not.
Some finishes will render r38 unrecyclable post use
Recycling limited to 1-2 times as material progressively becomes more brittle.
Certifications
