bow r33 is a recycled composite material that closely mimics natural leather. For use in packaging and accessories, it has a much lighter ecological footprint than the virgin equivalent as it is made of recycled scraps of leather and polyester. The production of new leather is notoriously toxic, as can be old leather when disposed of incorrectly. r33 ensures that waste leather is upcycled into a new product. Â Furthermore, r33 is stronger and more uniform in appearance than natural leather.
composition & production
More than 50% of the raw material is recycled leather. Once scrapped and shredded this leather is bound together with recycled polyester and a binding agent. Once treated and coated a remarkable array of colours and finishes can be achieved, with the convincing appearance of natural leather.
Â
Both the polyester and leather are from a blend of post consumer and scraps form the manufacturing of clothing, accessories, footwear and upholstery.
post consumer
Being a composite material, r33 cannot be recycled. That said, its strength and appearance lend themselves to reusable packaging solutions.
limitations
r33 is stronger and more uniform than new leather.
