recycled EVA

bow-r25 is an industrial process that reconstitutes EVA plastic waste into a re-usable soft, flexible plastic sheet for accessories or packaging. The waste being recycled is a mix of post-industrial and post-consumer depending on availability.

composition & production

EVA is Ethylene Vinyl Acetate. With very elastic polymers, EVA is a plastic with the soft, flexible qualities of rubber. It’s comparatively more resistant to heat, cold and UV than plastics with similar qualities, so it lasts longer. EVA lends itself to a gloss finish but may also be frosted.

EVA is sourced from petrochemicals. Unlike many other plastics with similar qualities EVA is produced without the addition of harmful chemicals like BPA, chlorine or phthalate plasticizers.

The absence of toxic additions makes EVA a plastic of choice for baby and child accessories, oral accessories and a number of medical devices and tools, notably certain implants and IV tubes.

post consumer

Resin ID code 7 – some municipalities will recycle this material, other do not. Recycling r25 is dependant on the finish, some colour applications leave this material not able to be recycled a second time.

limitations

Being soft and flexible EVA should not be expected to bear heavy loads.
