Polyester is how we to refer to the textile application of PET, the type of plastic most water bottles are made from. As such r24’s production process recycles a mixture of polyester fabrics and PET, and our supply base usually uses a combination of both depending on availability. Similarly, the waste being recycled may be post-industrial or post-consumer.
PET stand for polyethylene terephthalate, and is a common thermoplastic polymer resin. PET is extremely versatile, strong and lightweight.
About 60% of global production is used for the production of polyester and 30% in packaging. Depending where you are, polyester may be known by the branded names Dacron, Terylene or Lavsan.
