recycled PET

The Opportunity

PET is the world’s most common polymer, accounting for 18% of global production. PET is also the most commonly used plastic for disposable water bottles. 80% of plastic water bottles bought end up in landfills or polluting our oceans and waterways. Reusing this material helps prevent this from happening to preserve what’s left of our environment. Each pair made with this material is equivalent to 2.5 plastic bottles reused.

r22 is a recycled PET material suited creation of sustainable injection eyewear.

Composition & Production

This material comes from recycled plastic water bottles.

PET stands for polyethylene terephthalate, a thermoplastic polymer, and bbase’s r22 is made of 100% recycled PET.

Properties include being lightweight, rigid and a good barrier to water and other solvents – as well as the option to have a clear finish, and to be recycled post-consumer.

Benefits

Readily recycled under the resin identification code 1

Post-consumer material

Suitable for solid spray and milky colour finishes

Recycled PET performs largely like virgin PET

To Note

Material has styling limitations.

Some finishes will render r22 unrecyclable.

r22 is currently not suitable for crystals or paper-wrap effects.
